Tamales (sweet)

Makes: 8 small sweet tamales 

Ingredients: Maseca (or any tamale flour, 250g), baking powder (1 tsp), salt (1/2 tsp), water (500mL) (vegetable shortening (150g), sugar (6 tablespoons), red or pink food colouring (4/6 drops), corn husks (8)

Instructions: Soak the corn husks (for 15 mins).

Mix the Maseca, baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add the water and mix well.

In a separate bowl, mix the vegetable shortening and the sugar. Add the food colouring.

Add the vegetable shortening mix to the Maseca mix. Beat for 2 minutes.

Put tamale mix into corn husks, shaping them so that the corn husks enclose the mix.

Cook with steam for about one hour.

Enjoy hot, with hot chocolate or atole. Provecho!
